Some bagpipe music is used for minor occasions and other tunes are used only for special occasions. The chanter usually has eight finger holes, two tone holes, and a range of nine notes from low G to high A. The bagpipe is first attested in Scotland around 1400, having first appeared in European artwork in Spain in the 1200s. For centuries the Scots used the bagpipe as a weapon of war.
